HUTT NEWS.
The opening sale by auction in the now Exchange -Mart (Mr. E. O. Jackson) tookplace on Saturday- afternoon. Mr. D.. G. Swanson was in fihe rostrum, and tho sale Was conducted spiritedly all through. Thero was a good attendance of buyers, and tho various lots wcro keenly competed for. Mr. Jackson holding auction sales regularly in his rooms. • A wellrknown resident of tho Lower Hutt, Mr. P. Devercaux, has just completed .tho purchase of a 250-acre farm in tho Waikato. 'JPho farm recently was owned by Mr. H. Millington,_ and is well-known in the.district. The. laud in tho neighbourhood has long been noted for its productiveness, especially in root crops.- A sample mangold taken from Mr. Devereaux's farm recently, measured almost 24. inches in height,. and .fully 8 inches through. The purchase was. arranged by Messrs. Scott and Brown. The attendance at the Roller-Skating Rink oh Saturday evening was very good, and the enterprise of tho proprietors and management appears to bo meeting with' a very fair amount of appreciation The Rink is open on Mondays, 'Wednesdays, and Saturdays, both in .the afternoons and evenings. The programme for to-night includes a, hockey match between Hutt and Wellington teams.
