\AN ADVISER APPOINTED. 61 TELEURAm —PBF.SS ASSOCIATION—COPTRIGHT (Roc. Juno 7, 4.15 p.m.) London, Juno 6. Sir Walter Hillior, Professor of Ohineso at' King's College, London, has been appointed Adviser to tho Ghinoso Government. Sir Walter Caino Hillier, K.C.M.G., C.8., was formerly Adviser to the military authorities in China, and for his services in 1900 recoived dispatches and medal. Ho was born in Hong-Kong in 1849, a son of Mr. C. B. Hillier, late Consul at Bangkok. Ho was a student interpreter in China in 18G7, and from 1885 to 1869 was Chinese Secretary at Peking. In 1889 ho became Consul-Genernl in Korea, a position wliich lie held till 1906. ■ He has been Professor of Chinese at King's .College, London, since 1901. In 1907 ho published "The Chinese Language, and How, to Learn It."
