A delightful "at homo" was given by Dr. Edith Huntley at her residence, "The Eyrie," Kolburno, on Tuesday evening. On Wednesday afternoon Mrs. Birkett gavo .a pleasant little tea as a farewell to Miss Gibbs, who has been her guest for somo time. Miss Gibljs left, yesterday for. a visit' to Cliristchurch and Dunedin, and will later on tako a trip to the South Sea Islands, returning to Wellington in the spring. ' A wedding was solemnised on Tuesday at All Saints' Church, Palmerston North, the' Rev. C. C. Harper officiating. The contract,ing parties were Mr. Norman Matthews, third soil of Mr. A. Matthews, Waiorongomai, Foatherston, and Miss Nesta Ingeborg Richter, second.daughter of Mr. Riclltor, of Palmerston North. The brido was given away' by her brother, Mr. 0. Ritcher, and wore a very- dainty frock'of white embroidered muslin with bridal veil and orango blossoms. Miss M. Richter was bridesmaid and wore a blue dross and hat to match. Mr. Raymond Matthows attended his brother as best man. After tho ceremony a reception was held by Mrs. Robinson, aunt of the bride. Tho bride's travelling dress was a smart brown coat and skirt and. hat to match, with the bridegroom's gift of-a sot of furs.^

Kay and Mrs. lvay gave a very enjoyable evening party at tho Wadestown, for tho choirs and tho Sunday school teachers of ' the'churches at Wadestown, and St. Anno's, Northland. M'Donald, was in white silk, 'trimmed Vivith chiffon and insertion to match, and wore an embroidered voil with orange blossoms. Miss G. Sutherland; was chief briclesmaid, attired ip creme Sicilian, trimmed with cream laco and satin hat to match. Misses B. M'Leod (cousin) and, H. J. M'Donald (niece) were , dressed in cremo silk with hats'to match. Mr. G. Rowe, of Eketahuna, was best man, and the Rev. James M'Caw the, officiating minister. Tho wedding breakfast was served at tho residence of Mr. Peter M'Donald. Tho bride's travelling dress was a bluo ; cloth with hat to match. Mr. and Mrs: Petersen will resido at Rongomai. , ' . A correspondent 'writes:—"A' plain and fancy dress ba]l, tendered, by the ladies of the district was held on Friday evening, May 29, in Mr.„H. Poole's woolshed, Raituna. Thodance was in every way a success. A large number of visitors, despite tho very unpleasant state of tho' weather, - wero to bo seen in fancy dress, among the best being Mrs. Buchett, Mrs. Poole, Miss H. Bishop, 'Mr: and Mrs. Herbert, Master Stanley Herbert, and Miss Elsie Herbert. Dancing was kept up until daylight, when, after light refreshments had been served, tho visitors left for their hbmes.
