INCENDIARISM SUSPECTED. (BY TELEGRAPH. —PKEBS ASSOCIATION.)
Nelson, June 3. '. About 9.30 last night "The Beacons," a. nirie-roomed residence at the foot of Britaru , nia Heights, The Port, occupied by Mr.Colm Campbell and-family, and owned by Richardson's Estate, was destroyed'by fire, making., the third fire; at'Tlie Port m'teix-days. Mrs. Campbell and niece were in.ihe.'koiiso.at tha, , time, the others Bejiig away at a':?oncert in ' hose which had been connected earlier in the'evening was found to have beon mysteriously disconnected, consequently there was no means of cheeking the spread of the flam'esi which broke out in the drawingroom. It was some _ time before the fire • alarm -was received in town, and as tho water supply'pressure was inadequate, little could be. done to save the place, borne furniture was rescued, but the loss.was considerable. Incendiarism is suspected in reganl to the three recent fires, but there is no evidence ' beyond conjecture. The furmtuw, ivas insured for £400 ill tho Tlio"house'was also insured; but details are not available owing to the holiday.. NARROW ESCAPE FROM A DWELLING. Oamaru, June 3.
