Tho Mayor yesterday performed the ceremony of turning the first sod in the work of construction of tho reservoir at Cashmere Hills, Christohurch, for tho system of highpressure water supply. Tho Mayor said the : scheme would involve the' expenditure of £115,000. Tho reservoir would be 240 ft. above i tho level of Cathedral Square, would hold a million and a quarter gallons, and bo decked with reinforced concrete. About 120 miles of pipes would be used in tho reticulation. The whole work will''be complcto in seven months. ; BANKRUPTCY ACT. A CURIOUS POINT. Auckland, May 29. A curious point respecting the Bankruptcy Act was raised in the S.M. Court to-day by Mr. E. W. Burton. The Act provides that • immediately upon the filing of a petition all tho property of tho debtor shall be vested-in ' the Assignee. Mr. Burton held that' until • the bankrupt had filed tho nccessary statements he was not a bankrupt. His Worship (Mr. Kettle) said that it-was the first timo he had heard of such a point.
