OPENING OP SEASON. " ■The 190S season of-the AVellington- Chess Club was opened on Saturday night, when there was a fair attendance, 'despite the unfavourable weather. Sides were chosen by the two vice-presidents, Messrs. Littlejolin andKolling, 'the' former's team winning by 6£ to 4J. Tho full scores are as follow:—Barnes 0 v. AV. E. Mason 1; Littlojohn .1 r. F. AVeine, 1; Stanford 1 v. Scott 0. The photo. of the club's late-president,' Mr. C. W.t Benbow, which* was presented by the family of the deceased, was hung on the walls and greatly admired by v members. The annual handicap tourney for the Potherick Shield will be commenced next week. Entries for this .popular competition close tomorrow ovening.
