They exhibited desporato bravery. Soveral were bayoneted right in the British breastworks. A heavy duststorm and tho presence of standing corn greatly aided the Mohmands' sword rushes. Tho British advance' was checked, thus encouraging tho enemy to mako fruitless night attacks. INCITED BY AMEER'S OFFICIALS. TRIBESMEN AND MULLAHS. A COMPLAINT OF DESERTION. (Rcc. May 2-1, 4.40 p.m.) ( Calcutta, May 23. It is reported at Simla that the- Mohmands and Khuda-Khels have forwarded to tho Ameer a petition to tho offect that they attacked tho British at the instance of his frontier officials, who liavo now deserted them. Unless thoy aro helped quickly, tley intend to transfer the country to Britain. Tho Afridis liavo written to a leading Mullah, that thoy do not need any moro Mullahs to stir up trouble and then disavow and desert them, as in the case of tho Mohmands.
