After business, .parlour games was the item, and a very enjoyable evening' was- brought to a close about 10 o'clock by the C.T. The next meeting is the anniversary social. Tho Hutt River Board, met last- night, when there wcro present Messrs. W. 6. Foster (in the chair), T. A. Peterkin; and K. Stovcns. ..-Mr. P. Speedy wrote asking the Board to protect' his land at Belmont f?om..encroachment by the river. ■ The engineer reported that-the land referred to was only a sliinglo accumulation, and was not worth protection. The Board decided ,to reply-in accordance with the engineer's report. Messrs. Pitcaithley and Co. wrote, and stated that they considered the Board should not charge rent for prohibited . beaches.- It. was resolved that Messrs. Pitcaithley be written to, pointing out that the prohibition clauses were included in the leases. The tender of Mr. P. H. Gosse was accepted for the. Board's carting. ■ » ■ The foreman reported that : orieVchain of piles at Jones's ,-Camp had been v'driven deeper. Tho scooping' of tlie new ■ cut at Gear'lsland had been completed. The packing at Jorgensen's Bend aiid at Alicetown required attentibn. The recent fresh in the river had caused no damago'to the Board's works. : Accounts amounting to £250 odd were passed for payment, and the Board then went into'committee. •
