BROOKLYN DRAINAGE.

■ DEPUTATION TO THE CITY COUNCIL. A deputation from the Brooklyn Municipal Electors' Association, headed by tho ilon. W. W. M'Cardlo, M.L.C., .waited on the City Council last night, to urge tho speedy prosecution of the proposed drainage works lor Brooklyn. Mr. M'Cardlo said; the Association had confidence in tho Council, but desired to urge that the district should, not bo prejudiced by prior attention to other districts, which had ,no better claims. Something had been said lately of fever cases in Brooklyn, and thoy_ were anxious that the district's reputation for healthiness should be safeguarded. Mr. Hopkirk spoke to similar effect,, and the deputation presented the petition, which has already been published in The . Dominion, and whjch bore some hundreds of signatures. The Mayor, in reply to a question, said that' the* agreement. under which the Borough of Melrose (including Brooklyn) came into the city five years ago provided that drainage and waterworks should ,be installed within three years, or as soon after as was reasonably possiblo. .He assured the deputation that tho drainage work would take its proper place on the Council's programme, and tho representations made would be kept in' vieu J . ■
