PURE MILK.
FRESH FOOD AND ICE COMPANY'S ' " PROGRESS. Ono hears on nil sides a clamour of demands for tho sterilisation of the milk consumed on farms by the valuable, pigs, to save them from tuborculosis. This is, of course, good. But one wishes one' could hear moro often of something being done to ward off the saiuo 'danger from devouring tho farmer's valuable babies —and other people's babies. ; The Fresh Food and Ice Company, wo aro glad to notice, is steadily-pushing along its work insthis; direction. AYe recently had occasion tin-.these''columns (Msirch 13) to describe, the operations .of this company—the manner-in .which the purity of the".milk is ensured,! its bacterial content': reduced to a minimum, its quality hold by cold. Yesterday we. sawfurther evidence that the work of purifying the milk supply, of this city by the Fresh Food Company is not stationary, but. going always 'ahead. The secretary, Mr. Brandon, has lately secured the services of:Mr.-De Flou, an expert who has just returned from'-a ' visit to the most advanced countries of Europej and'studied the latest methods ,of- preserving the purity of milk as advocated by tho Pasteur -Institute, and: other centres of learning: Anyone can kill germs in milk by boiling it. ; The diffir culty is to; destroy -them-without boiling. And this is the task, that the Fresh Food Company is performing with increasing success. Mr: Do Flou, has already introduced several important improvements,, and others are to follow,' tho company sparing .no expense in tho matter. Several analyses have recently heen obtained to compare, the Fresh Food Company's milk; with ordinary milk. The verdict of the analyst, Mr. De Flou states, was that the Fresh -Food 1 . Company's milk Was three times purer than ordinary "good 'milk."' ~ The Company's arrangement to sell the milk of the Government' Levin Experiment Farm is a further step-''in advance. The whole of tho Company's milk is now. retailed in bottles, never 'from the ordinary, cans, and the :prico is tho samo as for ordinary milk. ; - ' ■ • \
