ARRESTS FOR CATTLE-DRIVING. London, May 15. A hundred and twenty persona have been arrested fov cattle-driving at Gort and Ballinasloe,. county Gahvay, Ireland. THE LEAGUE'S MANIFESTO. In connection with tho election, it was statod that the' Catholic Bishop of Birmingham opposed tho Liberal candidate on : account of tno '.Government's Education Bill, and that the English Catholics therefore voted for the Unionist candidate. On tho other hand, tho Irish Catholics , voted for. the Liberal! candidate. bocaiisa the Homo Rule organisations wore satisfied with Air. Churchill's assurance as to the Govornmont's attitude to Homo Rule. As the Liberal won by eight votes, it would seem to be the vote of the Irish ; Catholics (cast against that of tho English Catholics) that saved the Liberals' from defeat. Subsequently, tho .executive of the United Irish League issuod a manifesto "condemning' Catholics who support Unionist candidates in tho interests .of Catholic schools, thereby abandoning the cause of Ireland.". . ' .
