FARM WORK IN THE SOUTH.
A practical New Zealand farmer from Canterbury informed our Manawatu representative that feed in the South is not so abundant as in tho North Island. Potato crops generally are good, and he heard but few complaints of blight. The root crops worn on the inferior side, and not to be compared with the northern roots. It was a pleasant sight to see the early wheat crops, and the scene of general activity among thoso enpaged in agricultural pursuits. Ono feature that came under his notice was tho fact that farmers generally wero adopting a system : of shallow ploughing, which was quite tho rovcrso of tho practice- of a few years ago.
