The fact that for more than twenty-four years you have acted as Official Assignee without a single instance of disapproval being manifested must be. a source of unalloyed satisfaction to you! We recognise that the faithful discharge of your, duties not only necessitated business ability, and acumen of a high ' order, but also .the greatest tact, to ensure proper administration of justice. ' With these qualities, which were peculiarly suitable to one holding your office, you have displayed a wide sympathy, and a knowledge of human nature, which renders your retirement from office a loss which commercial circles can ill afford., In expressing the,heartfelt- wish that you will shortly lie restored to health, we trust that you will long enjoy the rest which yon have so honourably Earned." It is understood that an address will also be presented to Mr, Ashcroft from the merchants and traders of Wellington.
