Tho Masterton Trust Lands Trustees met this;: evening, when therewere present Messrs; T. B. Mitchell (chairman); T. Wagg, E. G. "Eton; W. H. Jackson, E. M'Ewen, and R. ICrahagon. ' iA deputation waited upon the' meeting from the Masterton Fire Board .'requesting the Trust to make an offer in regard to the Board surrendering tho lease of the present premises, and the trustees erecting a' new brick' two-storied fire station in ; Chapel Street. The Trustees'viewed tho idea with favour, and'agreed .to a surrender of the present lease,' providing tho Fire, Board went into a new building, to bo erected by the trust. ' : ' '. i"' ... Mr.' C. E. Darnell, at the meeting, brought up ' tho ouestion of establishing an agricultural college at Masterton on a site on'tho Masterton-To Ore Ore Rd. He referred to the offer' of. Mr.. W.' G. Buchanan of £6000 as an ondowmont, and said the duty of - tho Trustees as a body established to. foster education was to move in the matter., Ho tabled a motion as follows: — That the attention of the Minister for Education be directed to the facts as outlined, and; , with a view-to further development in - practical education 1 in this district/ 1 the • Government bo asked to. set ; aside laiids at tho junction/ of tho - Waipoua : and Ruam'abunga- Rivers for' the .purposes of an agricultural school. Tho varied qualities of the soil' make ithis an ideal : place for experimental work. = The Masterton A: and .-P. Association . recently oxpressed • the opinion/ that such; a . school was desirable, and this-.trust, being charged with the dutv of fostering education m its .widest sonse," with, its-yearly increasing revenue, believes that the best interests of our children -will'be served in helping a.de-; finite scheme of practical ■ education suited; to the probable requirements of students in their lifo work as nroducors in an institution' such as could be liere provided." The motion was carried . unanimously, having tho hearty support of tho Trustees.-
