The" Cashmere Estate Co., Ltd., _ wrote suggesting that a road though their property, to connect Khandallah with the Hutt Road, would be a convenience to the residents of Khandallah and district. It would be available for vehicular traffic, which tho Victoria track was not, and would be tho cheapest, quickest, and most convenient access. The directors wero prepared to dedicate the land required, and make a contribution to the cost ~of the road. Tho Borough Engineer (Mr. G. Clapcott) reported on* trial surveys of routes for improved access to Khandallah via Victoria Road. The route which he recommended as tho shortest and most economical would havo a total longth of 103 chains. From the junction of Rima Street, it would divert from Victoria Road to Mr. Knight's property, through which it would continuo to tho old Porirua Road, eventually joining the main road' opposite tho tannery. Ho estimated the cost of formation and metalling tho 103 chains 20ft. wido at £3200, exclusive of footpath. With a 26ft. formation and a footpath 6ft. wide, ho estimated the cost at £4800. These estimates wero approximate only, until. detailed information regarding cross section, etc., was obtained. ~ ' Tho Council decided to adopt the route recommended, and to ascertain what contributions the landowners would make towards the cost of the work.' The . Council further resolved not.to entertain the offer of the Cashmere Estate Company, as a better means of access was available. Messrs. Seaton and Sladden applied, on behalf of Messrs.
