INDUSTRIES WEEK.
A CANVASS OF LAMBTON QUAY. At a -meeting of the Now Zealand Shopkeepers' Executive, .hold on April 30, it was decided that a complete canvass of the city be mado to placo before tho shopkeepers.tho necessity of making a special display of New Zealand . mado goods during "Industries Week." Messrs. Millingtori and- Rosswero appointed 1,0 interview the Lambton Quay, shopkeepers, and they started on Monday morning, last at Stewart, Dawson,' and Co.', and'they completed/ their labours yesterday morning, finishing at Quiiiton's Corner. Practically the principals of overy shopwero personally interviewed, with results of tho most satisfactory nature. Tho schenio was universally approved and adopted. As regards Lambton Quay,* tho success of "Industries Week" is assured. ' Tho tedium of the interviews was relieved by some.''interesting information and exporionces. It was anticipated, for instance, that the-jewellers would find somo difficulty in making an attractive show of New Zealand manufactured goods, ,but their, displays proiuiso to bo most effective. •>,- - : . Tho saddlers are happy, to have an opportunity of. showing what can bo done in their' particular lino, and one of th 6 oldest established firms pointed, with pride to ah .old faded photograph of an exhibit of Now Zea-land-mado saddlery at an oxhibitiou held at Wellington in 1835. Tho drapers and kindred trades are determined to bo in tho front rank of exhibitors, and one well-known morcer has decided to exhibit Kaiapoi,' lloslyn, Mosgiel, and Wellington woollon goods in separate windows. Another prominent mercer produced, for tho encouragement of tho canvassers, a well-worn show-card, with , the inscription, "All goods in this window manufactured in Now Zealand.". This ho has shown in his window for many years.. • After delivering an oration on New Zealand-mado goods, he admitted that the wearing of certain Now Zcalaiid-mado starched shirts was a great ponanco to him on nccounij of tho stiff neck-: Practically all tho shopkeepers were interviewed, including Messrs. Barber and Co. and tho Gear Meat Company, who are both making a good show. ' The florists, tobacconists, stationers, etc., are all going to tako part, and present .repotts aro very encouraging for tho success of the exhibition. '
