A COMMONWEALTH PAPER.
A MEMBER'S QUESTION; Mr. Webster, a well-known momber of the Federal Labour party, gave notice in tho Commonwealth House of Representatives of tho following question:— "Whether, in vjew of the inadequate, biased, arid unreliable reports and : comments by tho Press in general on'tho doings ofi Parliament throughout Australia, the Government will consider the advisability of establishing a Commonwealth' nowspapor, and to /that end grant an inquiry for the purpose of. ascertaining:—(a) Tho possibility of establishing such a newspaper to specially convey to tho public an accurate and fair report of tho doings of tho people's Parliaments ; (b) the feasibility of publishing all Acts of Parliament passed from time tc time, or a readablo synopsis of tho same, also all Government advertisements and announcements in a more readablo form than thoso at present obtaining in the "Government Gazotto"; (c)' tho practicability of scouring united -action between the States and tho Commonwealth Governments to utilise the ' said paper as tlieii advertising medium, also to placo before the peoplo such matters as tho said Parliaments may deem advantageous to the public interest; (d) also the publication in the said nowspaper of cablegrams and telegraphic nows being a statement of fact relating to events transpiring within tlw Commonwealth and Etnpiro and tho world : in general, which are of interest and inv • portanco to the peoplo of the Common. wealth.' 1 ,- ,
