*> '* • / ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAI. MEETING. The annual general meeting of tho Wellington Hockey Association was held last night," Dr. H. C. Faulko being in the chair. There was a largo attendance of delegates. ■The chairman moved the adoption of tho r'pport and balancc-shcot, as already published. Mr. F. G. Bolton seconded tho motion. Mr! Oram College) congratulated tlio Association upon securing. tho Athletic Park for matches. J ■ Mr. Bennett (Wesley Club) said they were fortunate in having eight clubs entered for the senior championship,, which was a great improvement on last year. Ho also remarked that the. secretary, Mr. W. E. Pearson, dc- . served the most cordial thank's of tho Asso-ciation.-for... arranging for tho use of ' the Athletic Park. (Hear, hoar.) ' ~ The' secretary said .that six months ago he applied, to the City Council for consideration for. the,' Hockey Association when the now grounds were ready. Applications had also been mado to the Eastbourne, and Karon Borough Councils and tho Hutt County Council, who; had all replied that there ,'was 110 immediate prospect of the grounds being available for use, but when they were ready, tho Hockey Association would certainly receive consideration. _ Mr. Bolton also congratulated the Association, on its imnroved position, and the increased, popularity of tho game. There would naturally, with this increase, be a difficulty in getting grounds, and thi3 matter needed attention.'' Tho Hutt Park- could, with a vory slight' expenditure, 'be nmda a very satisfactory playing ground, and tho management could bo settled by the Associations joining .with the other sports bodies "to Parliament to ' settle, tho question of control. Ho understood that an English amateur team proposed , to come to tho Dominion, and . hp trusted that the venture would :bo very successful;" ... Tho report and balancc-shoet wore adopted. ; . ALTERATIONS TO RULES. Quite a number of alterations to rules wTre - decided upon. Tho most important proposal brought forward was to reduce the number of tho management committee members to seven. Mr. Organ (chairman of the Rules Revision Committee) pointed out that tho Committee, was, very unwieldy, and as all tho delegates were on it, there was a tendency to parochialism. - . - ' Tho secretary seconded tho motion. He said that the Association was the last body loft in New - Zealand with this cumborsomo .stylo , of| committees.. Eighteen or nineteen ■men were too many, and business wa3 not expedited.- Tho idea was not to represent every Club, but to' get , the best men on tho management. committeo. . Mr. Boltc-n spoke in favour of the motion. Oram moved,' as an amendment, to prbvido, that no member of the committee sTiould have'more, than ono vote.. Ho pointed out. -,that •at - present it. was possiblo for. a l ' committeeman to havo as many as four votes. Mr. Organ; said'that ho would accept tho am'bridmerit; 'and it was incorporated with tho-. motion. • -, : \ Tho motion, as amended, was carried. 'CORRESPONDENCE. There was-a,'considerable" discussion on a BUggedtibn..to double-bank,: or play two matches on each, ground at ;Day's Bay. . Tlip mover was Mr. I.uckie, • who said that le had reason to believe that if the proposal ;vas decided' upon,' the' Ferry Company would •uri boats leaving Wellington at about 2 j'clock on Saturday afternoons.' Ho also suggested that the spells should be made of ;hirty minutes instead-of. thirty-fivo as at irosent. -It-would centralise hockey in Day's Bay,,-and make it worth the while of the ferry Company, to keep tho tgroiinds- in jrdbr, arid thus. save a. great deal of, expense on the grounds' at Miraniar, which :ould only be temporary, as the land'wa3 , jeing cut up. * Tho "Ferry Company, should velcome the proposal in consideration of the ncreased, traffic: that would follow upon Day's Bay being made the cent'ro of the ;itmei; There' would be about 500 players on 1 iho grounds, and,-, naturally, a large num)br'of spectators. -In a year or two, periaps; the Association flight bo able to make •erms withVthe Company to obtain a small ibrbentage. Even without this latter, 'the )rdpbsal,;if.i carried, would result in'a dis'inbt; imprbvement in the Association's fintnces. A great point in favour of the icheme .was ..the encourageriient of the, jiriiors and third-grade players,' who .would eceiye an object lesson every Saturday if.terribon and learn from the seniors. It ' iiiglit ', be urged against the proposal that it vould daniago the ground, but -tho'.: speaker ras satisfied that this would be-small. . motion was seconded by Mr. Oram. ...Thb secretary strongly opposed the proposal, aB - the Association had' already the ' ;roiinds it required, and.these had to be paid or,-whether they were "used or not. Several members, took • part iir-the discusion, arid; on the motion being put to the •ote,, it was lost, seven'voting for it and light against. . . . iThe mooting' coricludcd with a vote of hanks to .the chair. - The .following are the teams representing St. Patrick's College Old Boys in tho : natches : to_ be played to-morrow:—Junior against United): Coltman, Gallagher, Quinn, : Jainblo, Miller, Campbell, Chapman, Ben- i lot't,' Ryan, Bartley and Butler. .
