Cologne gained pre-eini-tence in this industry through the inventors if toilet water (Eau do Cologne), Paul reminis and Maria Clementine, a nun, who amo to Cologne, where for many years they rianufa'ctured cau do Cologne, -and .-so ounded the,toilet-water industry of the city. Paul reminis left the secret with tho Farina amily, • while the nun bequeathed it to onf 'eter Schaebon, who had been her assistanl ormaniy years. ; Both families still'carry or he business and' aro the leading manufacurers. There are about thirty _ manufac urers of eau do Cologne in tho city.
