On Monday next the Edwin Geacli Dramatic Company commence their season at tho Opora Houso with a four-act drama entirely , now to Wellington, entitled " The Heart of a Horo," by Lingford Carson, the well-known author. Writing of this play, a Sydney paper I says:—"Tho play was received with every mark of approbation, and, judging, from tho warmth of tho reception of its initial per-- ! formanco, should havo a successful run. In many rcsnects it departs from tho beateP. track of tho ordinary melodrama with which Sydney audiences have become familiar, and the innovations wero a decidcd improvement. A vein of comedy runs through the play, which materially, adds to. the success of tho production." Now and appropriate scenery and effects are introduced.. Tho orchestra is undor tho direction of Professor Florack. Tho box plan opens at Holliday's to-morrow. ORGAN RECITAL. Tho'rain last, evening affected the attend-' 1 anco at Mr. Mauglian Barnptt's organ rccital ' in l tho Town Hall, though the audience was still sufficiently largo to give satisfaction'.. The programme oh this occasion contained ■ more than the usual number of higher class pieces,'and be it recorded as a sign of increasing appreciation in this direction that tho audience encored Mr. Barnott's rendering of Bach's " Fugue in D " ! The organistj who -gave a very capable and clear rendering of this massive work, particularly in developing tho. groat pedal climax, kindly repeated the latter portion, i Another-heavy,'though popular, pieco was Handel's ".Concerto in ! J! I ,"'four, movement's of Which wore played. Wagner's "Good Friday music" from."Parsifal " camo as a great treat. Tho combinations wero beautifully chosen, and tho motive of the work was very cleav. Other pieces woro: An overture, "Si j'etais Roi" (Adams)'; n "Gavotte in F" (Carelli); and-Mendels-sohn's rousing "March in D." In addition, two delightful littlo melodies wero played; "Still wio die'Nacht" (Bohm), and an English composition, "The Answer," by Wolstenholiiic. Tho public seem to appreciate Mr. Barnett very much , in these delicate compositions, and it is probable that both., of tho above, contributioiis will bo asked, for at later recitals,' particularly the Wolstenholmo piece, with its haunting melody.
