BENEVOLENT TRUSTEES.
—: A QUESTION OF LIABILITY. . The trustees of tlio Benevolent Institution met yesterday, tlio llov. \V. A. Evans being in the chair. Other trustees present were: Messrs. F. G. Botton, A. C. Pearce, J. Smith, 11. Cook, D. Robertson, and Mrs. Darvall. Tlio secretary reported the number of inmates nt the Ohiro Homo to be 9S (67 males and 31 females). A letter received from a suburban borough " raised tho question of tho maintenanco of indigent persons, who Shift their homes to beyond tho city boundaries. Tho caso in , question had been charged to tho Karori Borough Council till tho boundaries of that i borough were altered recently,-and that local : body now refused to accept any liability for . the caso which was not now in. its district. In stating this tho town .clcrk cited a similar instance in which the Karori Borough Council had borno tho expense of maintaining an i indigent family after it had removed from e Wellington to Karori. 0 A resolution was passed on the motion of e Mr. Bolton to the effect, that the question of 1 the Board's liability in these particular cases, 5 and the general question of the Board's liability in respect of cases from districts recently amalgamated with the city, bo referred to the Board's solicitors. o A REFRACTORY INMATE. • Mr. Truebridge (master of tho Ohiro j Homo) sought tlio atlvico of tlio Board with regard to the case of an inmate of tho Home. Olio of. tho grounds of'complaint was alleged drunkenness. . ' e .Eventually,, it was resolved to leave tlio '> caso in tlio hands of tho chairman.
