SURVEYORS' INSTITUTE.
The monthly meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors was held at tho office of the secretary (Sir. C. D. Mor-' peth), yesterday afternoon, when'there wero present:—Mr. James M'Korrow (in the chair), the Hon. G. F. Richardson, and Messrs. A. P. Mason, and F. I. Ledger. The resignation of Mr. John Strauchon as a member of the Council was received with, regret. The Council expressed regret at Mr. Strauchon's transfer, and members spoke oulogistically of his past services. His successor, as Chief Surveyor and Commissioner for Crown Lands, Mr. James Mackcnzio, of Auckland, was asked to fill tho vacant position on the Council. _ . - : • A lotter was received, drawing tho attention of the Council to an advertisement appearing in a newspaper of an unqualified surveyor advertising as a surveyor. It was dccided to inform tho advortisor that ho was committing a breach of tho New Zealand Institute of Surveyors and Board of Examiners Act, 1900.'
