THE REFRIGERATION CONFERENCE. The; " Economist " (London) contains tlio following paragraph:—"Referring to the International Congress of Refrigerating Industries, to bo held next July in Paris, Con-sul-General Mason writes that the work of the Congress has been divided into six sections, each of which is tinder the control of a special committee, headed by an eminent French specialist. The purpose of the Congress is (o bring together leading experts and representatives, from all countries, of the principal industries in which refrigeration is used, and it ,is hoped to develop the industries of cold storage and transpor-; tation by the study and adoption of more advanced methods and appliances. It will thus help to extend the range and promote the efficiency of refrigeration as a factor in international commerce. Great Britain, Germany, and Russia will take active parts in ths proceedings, and will be represented by commissions, made up of eminent specialists and ■. Government officials. The official' languages of the Congress will be English, French, German,' and. Italian. The Congress lias the full support and co-operation of the French Government, the honorary presidents being ex-President • Loubet and Senator Freycinct;" . _: Against this array of men who are prominently specialists on the scientific side, New Zealand, , with her one representative—and ho a practical man rather than a man of science—must • appear rather insignificant. CONGRESS POSTPONED. The " British Australasian" of March 20 ' says This important international gathering, the Congress of the Refrigeration Industries,. which has. so much concern for Australian and New Zealand shippers of perishable produce, has been deferred till Sep T tember 17 to 23—it was to have been held at Paris in July. " Mr. John Gooke, just arrived from Melbourne, has received a commission from Mr. Deakin to'represent the Commonwealth of Australia. . "Advices from,' Queensland are to -the effect that, Mr. E. V. Roid, of Dalgety and Co., has been appointed to represent the Queensland Meat Works,, and Major Norton,: D.5.0., will represent Soutl ..Australia. Captain Pearse will reprpserit many of the principal Australasian tticat companies. : ■ "Tim British Committee, with Sir Montague 'Nelspn, at its head, is large and repro-, sentative, "and as time goes on. increasing interest is being felt in the forthcoming Con-, gress, -Valuablo papers are being prepared by experts in r all branches of refrigeration, and full justice will be done bv the rapporteurs'to the splendid part, which Australasia has played ,in the initiating and practical parts; of tho industry of preserving and shipping perishable produce.
