A deputation from the public mooting held recently waited on • the master bakers last ovening, and aakod -them to favourably oonsider a resolution carried at that meeting requesting the bakers to treat, cash at tho door oil' tho . same basis as the purchase of coupons—viz., 3Jd. a 21b. loaf, and also to make the coupons interchangoablo' amongst the different bakers.' One baker admitted selling for 3Jd. in;.Clive because, he had to compete with Napier bakers, Another said 3Jd. cash was all right if they could get it, but Bome people would pay cash ono day and then gradually. fall into arrears,, causing endless confusion in ; book-keeping. Interchangeable coupons wore genorally i regarded .as .impracticable, as it would bo impossible to calculate the number of loaves necessary for a round. They might bring out .too many •loaves, with tho result that they would be left on their hands. The bakers ultimately agreed to charge 3Jd. por 21b. loaf over the oounter, 4d. cash on delivery at the door, L«-. 3a. 6d: per. dozen ooubom.
