SOCIAL AND PERSONAL.
A very successful;garden party was held on Saturday afternoon at the residence of Mrs. _T. W. Hislop ill aid of the funds'of the Y.W.C.A., and as it was a calm-after-noon the guests were able to enjoy the beautiful view from the garden. On tho tennis court there were stalls for the sale of confectionery, and plain and fancy needlework, presided over by Misses 13. Luko and White, and during the afternoon a recitation was given by Miss Luke, a pianoforte solo by Miss Romington, and Miss Simpson delighted ' the visitors with a flute solo. Miss Burfoot, who has taken the lato Mrs. Richmond's house in Brougham Street, gave a small afternoon tea on Friday. Among thoso present were Mesdames Clcghorn,. Harcourt, Dean, Chapman, Stott, Ross, and Campbell, and Miss Partridge. A wedding of' interest was solemnised here on Thursday (writes our Otaki correspondent), when Mr. George Bramley, son of Mr. Bramley, of Wellington South, was married to Miss Grace Poyntor,' eldest daughter of our local postmaster. Thei bride, who was given, away by her father, was dressed in pearl grey, nun's-veiling, and the bridesmaids, Misses Poynter (2) and Dempsoy wore pretty frocks of nun's-veiling. The Rev. Shirer (Wellington) was the officiating clergyman, and Mr. Hugo Bramley best man. After tho ceremony nearly 100 guests wore entertained at tho Town Hall. , Tho Society for tho Protection of Women and Children hold its fortnightly meeting on Friday afternoon in its office, Willis' Street, when there were present: .Mesdames Fell, Hoby, Darvall, Izard, and Evans, and . Miss ' Brown. Mrs'. A. Ev Atkinson presided. A number of cases were dealt with; and various' subscriptions were acknowledged with thanks: ■Mrs. H., Gilmer, £1; Miss Coates, Mrs. ,T. H. Miles,- Mrs. R, B. Williams, Mrs. H. Crawford, 10s. each; Mrs. J. M'Clelland, 7s. Gd., and Messrs. Penty, J. Myers, Mesdames W. Fell, Higginson, Stafford, Misses M'Lean, and E. B. Brown, ss. each. 1 Miss Dean, who arrived some weeks ago from England with her mother to visit Mrs. S. Harcourt. left on Friday for Sydney. Mrs. Dean and Mrs. Harcpurt will join her there nest month. 1 ' •
