An explosion, withiloss of 1 ifo, occurred at tha Norton Hill Colliery, Somerset, whilo a night shift , composed of thirty men was at work. Twonty of the men managed to mako their escape, but ton were suffocated, despite repeated heroic attempts to offect their resoue. Many of the rescuers weap overcome by gaseous fumes and wero carried out of tlie mino in nil inscnsiblo condition. One died after being brought out. (Roc. April 12, 4.20 p.m.) London, April 11. Tho Norton Hill Colliery explosion is attributed to tho ignition of dust caused by tho firing of explosives.
