OPERA ILoi'SE. "The Moral? of Marcus," by tha Flemming Company, last evening drew another large, audience.' To-night the piece will" bp 'repro-' ducetl. ' : ! : Mr. W. G. Wills's sympathetic adaptation from Oliver Goldsmith's faiyious work, " The Vicar of Wake Sold," will be , given for the first time in Wellington to-morrow (Saturday) evening. "Tho Vicar" is a real human being, built up iiy faith,' and/rich in''the matter of spirit, meaning, and ideal, Mr. Wills having been very careful to keep the dramatic distinct from-tho merely theatrical. Tho thread of tho drama'.is nt its utmost tension in tho "third act, 'which passes in the sittingroom of an old-fashioned iun. The trick which Squiro Thornliill believes ho has played on "Olivia" is a fine opening, all in favour of the libertine. His uncle's (Sir William Thornhill's)'.appearance and declaration. of himself is an admii--able counter thrust, tho full force of the blow reaching liomoMvhen the' Vicar appears,' arid in some keenly delivered sentences completes the humiliation of the crestfallen Squire—a singularly strong'finale to tho act. "Olivia" can only bo played-for three nights, as/'Dr. Wake's Patient" isMo.be given for the last two nights of the season, and with the excellent company Mr. 1 , Flemming has got with him on Ills present tour, crowded houses should obtain for tho revival of this popular I play.. ~• ■ : ' THE ROYAL PICTURES.
