WELLINGTON RUGBY UNION.
A meeting of tho Management Conimitteo of tlio AVellington llugby Union was hold last evening. Tliero wero present: —Messrs. J. Murray (in the chair), G. V.' Bogle/ E. 0. Hales, V/. Hardham, J. F. O'Sullivan, J. Burns, J. Sweeney, and W. G. Talbot (secretary). . ■Tlio Lower Hutt Borough, Council wrote agreeing to allow tho Union the liso of tho Recreation Ground for an annual payment of £23. The Council imposed certain conditions, one 'of which was that the Kia Ora Club should play its matches oil the ground. After some discussion, it was decided to accept the ground at. £25. It was resolved to play, the*' Kia Ora Club matches on the ground as far as possible, but to adviso the Council that thoscommittce could not bind itself to play all.lCia Ora matches there. Several other suggestions wero also drafted to bo put to tho Council. The Railway Department wrote granting tho Union the same terms for footballers travelling from Wellington to Potone and the Lower Hutt. as were -granted last year. TheUnion will receive twopence from each fare by the, 2.10 p.m. train leaving To Aro, and tho same amount 7oi\ players travelling by . any special train run for footballers. , .' The Railway team, was granted permission to play a match against the Athletic thirdclass team at Hastings, on April 18: A letter was received from Hospital Trustees, in referonco to the treatment of injured players. It was decided to reply that arrangements have now been made fbr tho present-'season. r ' . The Athletic Club v,'as granted permission to play tho Masterton Club at Masterton on Easter Saturday. The Ponokc Club's application for permission to play the- Albion Club, Christcliurch, at Christchurch, during the Easter holidays, was also granted. The Railway and Karori Clubs wrote-ask-ing that they slioidd be' allowed to.enter teams for' the Fourth-Class Championship. It was decided to tho clubs concerned, stating that, under the. rules of the Union, no entry could bo received for the Fourth-Class Championship alone. Therefore, the clubs would have to onter for-the third grade if-they wished to be admitted. ' A. circular enclosing a. subscription- list for Bayly" -Memorial Fund v/as received. Tho memorial is' to bo erected in the New Plymouth Recreation Ground, but tho form .it is to take will not be dccided upon until all the subscription lists are. in. It was decided to forward, tho lists on to club secretaries, as .tho Union could do.nothing in tho matter. , Tlio following clubs forwarded entries for tho championship contests: —Athletic, 6 teams; Petone, 5; Melrose, 5; St. James, 5; . Victoria College, i; Wellington, 4; Old Boys, 4; Poneko, 4: St. Patrick's Collego, 2; Kia Ora, 2. •. ■ , The Old Boys' Club was granted permission to'play Nelson College Old Boys at the Athletic Park on Easter Mouday, ill a snatch for the Old Boys! Competition for a. trophy'presented by Mr?W.Vpoyenish'. : , ! : The initial com- ■ potition is'being played in Wellington. The St. James's Club was given permission to play tho' following.-games:—Ruia Club, Motueka/ April 18 ;' Rival Club, Nelson-, April 20; Kia- Ora 1 - Club;- Palmorstoii,"April 20. - - A. letter was received from Mr. G. V. ; .Bogle, stating that a New Zealand University 'team is to play Sj'dnoy./Uniycrsjt-y; at 'Sydney 'in July; - and applying for,, permission for any University, men playing, under tho jurisdiction of tho Wellington Union to play in the' Wow Zealand team. The requcpt was granted. -application was received from Mr. H.-Cracroft-Wilson, making an oft'er to supply, freo of cost, 3000 programmes every/ Saturday for the championship matches, tho programmes to include the names and weights of the players, also : a,table of the,positions of tho teams as thd championship' contest pro- . gresscs. It was'decided to ask Mr. Wilson to.submit a specimen copy.-of the proposed !- .programme. ';■ _'• The Petoii'e Club intimated that it intended .visiting Nelson «at Easter, and was granted permission: to' play, tho Albion' Club, on Easter Saturday.'"- -. -J ; - - --.
