A SHOCKING ACCIDENT.

A very regrettable and painful accident befell tho well-known athlete Jack Harrison at Melbourne, on March ■ 21, tho result of which will mean the termination pf his career as champion club swinger of Victoria,' a fact which will bo generally deplored. Tho injuries receivodJjy Mr. Harrison are of .1 shocking :nature: Ho. was. working at a largo cutting machino at Messrs; Cameron and-'Sutherland's-, timber -yards, City Road; South .Melbourne, and when testing' a part of tho cutter his coat: became entanglod in the fast-running rollors.' Ho was rapidly being .dragged into the machine and cried loudjy for help, but before the brakes wero applied'tho unfortunate, man sustained serious injuries. His left leg had been caught in the 1 works, and badly crashed, and both hands wero partially mutilated in the cog wheels of tho cutter in his efforts to extricate himself from : thei threatened destruction. . Tho injured man, who was suffering soverely from shock, was oonvoyed to tho Melbourno Hospital in a-St.. John "ambulance, and on examination by Dr. Silberberg he was found to have sustained a compound fracturo of the leg. His hands were dreadfully mangled. Only tho forefinger and thumb' remained on the left hand, while two fingers wero_ severed from tho right, hand. 'Mr. Harrison,. who is only twenty-eight years of age,, has been for some considerable time foreman at Messrs. Cameron nwl land's yards, and is a resident of Albert Road, South Melbourne. Muclv syiiipaviny is felt for him in his unfortunate mishap.
