THE LATE FATHER PIDGEON.

The. late Father Pidgeon,', who. ,died on Thursday evening at the r Redcmptorist Monastery, Hawker Street, in his sixty-first yoar, .was borri and educat-ed in Dublin, and ordained- in England, where he worked for many, years. In 1890 ho camo, out to Australia, and was in the, Redomptorist Monastery at Ballarat,' prior to coming hero, about three . years ago, with Fathers Cluno' and M'Dermott, to found the Wellington branch of tho Order. The local House' of tho Rcdemptorists/was; originally at Kilbirnio. Soon after his arrival in New' Zealand; Father Pidgeon's health. became very bad, and after a medical examination, he was told ,that his heart was so.i weak that any exertion might., caus« his' death... He did not thoreforo tako part in the preaching missions, which are the special function of tho Redemptorists, but confined.his, work,to the monastery.

On Thursday ' night ono of tho Fathers assisted him, as usual, to ascend tho monastery stairs. .'Father Pidgcon felt a suddon weakness during the'ascent, and on reaching his room, sank back in his chair and immediately expired. Father Clun©, Superior of the' Monastery, returned from Feilaing'yesterday to attend t}io funeral, which will tako placo at Karori to-day. A solemn requiem mass will bo held ,at St. Joseph's Church at 9 a.m., and the funeral .will leavo tho,church at 10.. Father Cluno will sing the!mass,, and' His Grace Archbishop Redwood will preside, at the service. ■
