Council in regard lo tho necessary powers. The company,: a-s is woll known, lias long been cramped for space at its existing works^ at Courtenay Placo, and the purohaso of land at Miramar for tho location ?{. works seemed tho bast solution of tho difliculty. Tho. cost of tho new Works' wiU approximate the sum of £100,000. ! • The now works • will includo tho largest gas-homer in tho Dominion. It will • havo a capacity of one and a half' million • cubic ieet. The company's largest gas-Holder now 111 use lias a capacity of only 400.000 cubic ioet. 1 hero is' one in Auckland wliich holds about a million and a quarter foot. The gas-holder for the .Miramar works'was ordered by Mr. H. Birch, engineer to tho . Wellington Gas Company, Limited, during .Ins rcccnt visit to .England, when ho visited a number of the largest and most modern gasworks in the Old Country. The makers are Messrs. Clayton, Son, and Co., Limited, or Leeds. Mr. Birch also 'ordered for tho i company an extensive gas-purifying plant I to be installed at the new works. • i
