Council,. speaking in. the, Senate in reply to a .question, said it' was most unusual for the President to leave the United .States,' and ho feared,-it was useless to. invito him to visit Australia. As to some of the British fleet being represented, on-the occasion, : ,tho invitation to. the American .fleet was forwarded through .tho Imperial authorities, and no doubt, they, would, recogniso tho full importance.of the matter.
