PALMERSTON
A public meeting is to be held to-morrow in connection with the resignation of the Curator. Tho Dairy Union will pay out £4791 for the month of February. Slightly over half of this will bo distributed over the Palm'erston District, and the balance over the Eketahuna district.
MASTERTON,
Mr. J. JI. Coradine (Mayor) and Councillors Pauling and J. Mackay waited on tho Hon. J. Carroll to-day, and'brought under his notice the matter of eleven thousand acres of native leasehold over tho Ruamahanga river at To Oreore, which is held by sis settlers, and asked (that the Government 'tako it over and lease on behalf of Natives. Tho Minister promised to get, Sir Robert Stout and Mr. Ngata, M.P., the Nativo Commissioners, to inspect the land, and the, Government could, ho said, act immediately on their recommendation. .
CARTERTON
•- At a special meeting of the Borough Council held in tho Council Chambers, the following tenders were accepted for the street contracts: —High Street, A. Jones, £3500; Park Road, Burling and Goodin, £113; Belvedere Road, W. H. Hart, £29; Tyno Street, Kent Street, Rutland Road, and Brooklyn Road, T. Aplin, £145; Lincoln Road,, C.' Hartley, £131; total, £3918. Tho only tender made for the work as a whole was that of Mr. A. Sellars, £5700.

The rccent rains havo done an immenso amount of good, but, as a result of the drought, farmers have been compelled to reduce, their stock. 11l some pases dairy heifers ' are selling at from 355., and cows at £2. Sheep farmers, Wing to the scarcity of fcedj-are selling stock equally low, aged breeding owes in some cases being sold at Is. per head. Feed is now growing.again, and the prospects for winter pasture aro much better. : 1 '

Owing to the fall in fibre, the Soifert Flaxdressing Company has dispensed with a number of omployces, and is only working three strippers. Though-rain-fell heavily on Wednesday, tho weather is now clear and warm. The Manawatu River has .risen about a foot . The Catholic Bazaar opens on Saturday night. Father Schaeffcr will probably perform the opening .
