It appears that ever sirico the arrest of Lomoine, the diamond maker, Mr. Siegman, tho wealthy American, who is : prosecuting Lcmoiuc's former associate Moine, has had a . number of curious adventures. Ho resides at Neuilly, and has received a-largo number of threatening letters, telegrams, and rokpress cards, all asking his wifo. to make an- appointment . with. somo undefined person. . ' , , . _ ....... .. Both/Mr. .Siegman, and his wifo havo been attacked ■ in the street several times' by, masked men, and attempts havo been made to burgle their house. .. Mr. Siegman,'s house at Neuilly is literally barricaded. . Mrs. Siegman, a tall, darkhaired woman of resolute appearance, said: — . '' Tho reason for tho barricading is_.that since Lemoine has been arrested my husbandand mysolf havo been so terrorised that we literally hold our lives'in_ our hands, and asfor myself, 1 nover stir a revolver. . "Hero are a number of letters and telegrams .. making 1 appointments . for me and urging-ine to bring .certain, documents with me. i kept, none of the appointments, but my husband did, and saw no' : ohe. Then all kinds of mysterious people began to call at this house. 1 'Under pretext; of selling me somo diamonds, a stranger called and suggested a compromiso in tho Moino case, and as ..the only compromiso my husband would accept was the. return of' his .money the stranger went. away ; uttering' mysterious threats. * I was obliged to .dismiss all my.servants. 11 ,' v Worso than that has happened here," Mr. Siegman broke in. : " A few evenings ago a deliberato attempt was made at the door of this liouso to mujdor my wife by a woman armed with a knife." At the police commissary's offico at Neuilly it was ascertained that Mr. Siegman had related ; \all tho above statements t-o the police and had applied for protection. - . Of tho .agreement. which. "We will sell large quantities of De Beers shares," said Lemoinej " without covering, and we will buy them back later on at a very low price. I will. toll you how. I have an agreement with Sir Julius Wernher for the artificial manufacture of diamonds. When wo havo sold' enough' I will publish that agreement.
