Bell, if. 1 N. ll'Leod, and IV Ch'ise-Jlorris. j ./Die-'Mayor - stated that the agreement with the Wellington Gas Company, Ltd., in-regard to the laying of the proposed now mains lo connect with the city reticulation was almost completed. - Only one ,or -two detail matters remained to be settled., The Engineer, in his report on improvement works, stated that the formation on the tramway route was nearly completed, with the exception of the cuttings -on the Mirnmar side of the tunnel, to enable footpaths to bo, connected. \' - ' The Public Works Committee recommended the straightening of a. portion of the Seatoun track fifteen chains in length, 'the' extension of: the Marino Parade as soon as the owners of frontages dedicate the necessary land to enable the parade extension to be made 50ft. in'width; that the Town Clerk bo authorised to: have survey work done oh the foreshore road; that the improvements on the 'foreshore hi made by day labour; that application be invited for the position of foreman for improvement works. _ ■ The Mayor explained that the proposed straightening of the Seatoun track- was estimated to cost JC4OO. It would involve moving the: tram line. The: committee had had before it- a more complete scheme, estimated to cost ,£BOO, but-the £100 scheme would do awav with, tho worst of the curves. It was <i pity: that tlie work had-not-been done before. If tho track were straightened, there would be a saving later on in drain laying and other matters. The report was adopted. ' : Plans were submitted for tramway waiting sheds at Miramar Avenue and Seatoun, tho ' foAner estimated to cost dG7!) 10s., and to seat thirty .persons, the latter to cost .£239, and tb seat sixty. ' - \ Councillor Chase-Morris urged that other parts of the boroughwere equally in need of such facilities. lie thought there should be 1 sheds at each of the two termini, as well as at Miramar Avenue and Worser Bay. If only the two were authorised, there would be ill-feeling among residents. The Msyor explained that the committee did not-"know the probable cost when they had ' the plans prepared, and had not decided what other sheds would bo required. The two proposed would not consume all the funds available, and' other sheds might be erected later. •The matter was referred to the Public Works Committee, with power to act. , ' - Account-6 amounting to J31C31 were passed for payment. '' -
