Denniston congratulated the grand jury on the comparatively light calon- • James Eaflcliffe, ivlio had pleaded guilty in the. lower court, was-sentenced to -three years' - imprisonment and treated as an habitual criminal, for falso prctcnces .at Hokitika. - Henry Wong Gyo, for false pretences at Greymonth, was sentenced to fifteen months' imprisonment. -■ Tho grand jury returned ■ true bills in regard to tho 'indictments of T. R. Jones, of.Kccfton, for robbery; J. Manora, sheep stealing; Alex. M'Lonnan, theft; and no bill against J. Manera, cattle stealing.- - ■ At the. Supreme Court this afternoon tho grand - jury 'returned truo' bills against Yep Duck and Charles ' 'T. N. Jones, • charged, with 'theft and violent assault,, was found guilty -of-tech-nical common assault, and spntenco-was deferred, till to-morrow. - ' Tho-case against'Chas. Montaguo, charged with attempted indecent assault at' Ngahoro on' November 12, was commenced, and theCourt adjourned. - ; 1 ' , Napier, March 4. ~ 111 the Supremo Court Rangi Epiha was admitted to two years'-,; probation on a charge of forgery and .uttering at Hastings, and Percy James Jones to twelve month's' probation for theft at Puketapu. 'Luther M. Murray was found guilty of assault with intent to rob, and was remanded until further charges of sheep stealing aro heard. At' tlio Supreme Court /to-day._ a Nativo named-Potohiko. Paiako -was\acquitted on a charge of breaking and entering at Rotokiokip, near Waikaremoana. '
