-0 WANCANUI JOCKEY CLUB'S AUTUMN MEETING. BY TEMGBAPn—SrECJAr, CORRESPONDENT'. Wanganui, March 5. The autumn meeting of: tho Wanganui Jockey Club commenced to-day. There was a good deal of l'ain during tho night, but: tho morning was fine, and whon the races .commenced thcro was lio rain. During tlie running of,tho Hack Hurdles tho raincame on, and a heavy showdr continued right through tlio Cup race. The track was not materially affected by the rain, however, as good times were recorded in all the races. Tho fields wero small in some of tho events,, .but tho racing was fair, and totelisator. speculation was brisk cxcopt in tho Juvenile Handicap, where some of tho public were shut, out through tho race being started punctually. The. investments for tlio day amounted to £11,048, as against £1,2,406 for last Cup day. Sixteen bookmakers paid for licenses to bet on the lawn, and twenty paid to bet in the paddock; The principal event was won by Ulilando, the absoluto outsider of tho fidld. He was ridden by. F. Cress'; who is apprenticed to his father (Mr. Cress, of Mastertori). Another outsider .'prevailed in the Flying Handicap. This was the big .chestnut Gold Thread, who was ridden by R. Young,' of Tille.y's Foretell, stablo. A. Kac, rider of Gold Lace in' tho Juvenile Handicap, Was unseated in th 6 race, and his foot got caught in tho stirrup iron. Ho got a nasty wound in. the scalp, which necessitated stitching, but otherwise ho was 'not seriously injured.
