\. (BY TELEGEAPH—muss .ASSOCIATION.) _ . Auckland, March 3. Tho polico-made a very : serious complaint to tho Auckland Licensing Committee to-day regarding the licensee of a city-hotel. After going into, tho matter, the committee intimated that the license'for the hotel would not -be renewed to the sa'mo, licensee at the next annual meeting. ■ The caso upon which tho police based their complaint 'was that of a man named Patrick Smith, who stayed at the hotel in question for nine or ten'days at the beginning of last month. He hajided £50 to the publican, who gave him back a sum-aggregating £24. Up to February 9 it was shown .that Smith exponded at least.£6 of this'in .drink, shouting for - numerous " hangers-on " at tho hotel. The, sequel was insanity for Smith, who is, now confined'in the Avondale Asylum. :-. Tho whole circumstances of tho case left tho Licensing Bench' dissatisfied with" tho conduct of the licensee.
