FLAX LEASES.

NEW REGULATIONS GAZETTED,

Tho following-new regulations (under tho Land Laws Amendment Act) relativo.to tho granting of flax leased; caiiio-into force yos-terdayi~'when-thoy. were proclaimed-in tho Orazctto. I' ollowing are some of tho provisions:— : . .

Tho-Land .Board'.may, with tho. approval .° -~®,-Minister, leaso by auction, for growing, cutting, or removing ilax, any'.area not exceeding.2ooo acres,;for a term not exceeding fourteen years,. at such upset yearly rental as,may bo determined by the. Board. .0". the expiration of tno said lease a new leaso.may bo granted'to the former .lessee,, without auction, for a further term not exceeding fourteen years,, at. a rental to bo determined by tho Board not . sooner. thau twelvo months-nor later; than six'.moiitlis' before the expiration of. the first .term. Board may also, in disposing, of flax areas, by provisional license,, fix an upset annual rental upon,.the land so disposed of, and _sucli upset rental , shall bo tho rental payable byithe lessee or licensee.if the land is disposed of, by application, ;but if, the. land is offered by. auction ,the' upset, rental - shall be subject to. advanco thereat. ' An outgoing tenant has no right of compensation for growing flax; ho must take all precautions' against damage by fire, flood, cattle, etc., under pain -of forfeiture. Compensation for, or removal of, buildings may bo arranged for.
