PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The regular'meeting of the I'ctone'Borough Council was held last evening, when tliero were present'the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewnn), snd Councillors Coles, Shortt, Nicholson, Smith, Ladder, Colqukouii, and ■ Dr. 1 Harding. Messrs. E. W. Woodhouso and Co. sent a plan of subdivision in Culm Street for .approval. Councillor Southgate moved, and Councillor Colquhoun seconded, that a permit for the subdvision be granted, subject to a sum to cover the'cost of tarring the footpaths being lodged with the Council. This was carried. , Tho secretary of the. Citizens' Brass Band wrote asking if tlio Council would arrange for an exhibition of cooking by gas at tho baud's bazaar, under tho direction of\Miss Woolfc. The. mutter was left in tho hands of tlic Mayor and the Ungineer. The Borough lamplighter ami Domain keeper, Mr. Crmnplon, wrote ligain offering his services for tho position at JiL'j per annum, and the. offer was accepted.

Mr. J. AVooley wroto asking the Council to accede to tho request that the Couucil employees have a paid annual holiday, in order that they may arrange a picnic. It was decided that consideration of the matter' bo deferred until the next estimates come up. A letter was received from tho Borough solicitor, who wrote stating that steps were being taken to _ have n proclamation issued vesting the Section F Korokoro in tho Council. The section referred to is tlifc ono used for the settling tank.

The Ilutt Bond Board wrole. regarding the maintenance of the llutt Koad, and stating that would be required to put the road in order up to March 31. The letter was received. The Hector Land Syndicate was granted permission to erect two semi-detached dwellings on the usual conditions. ■Mr. .Tones waited on tho Council to ask for a permit lo put up a brick wall on the boundary of his seel ion.
