GOVERNOR'S MOVEMENTS.

■ —— $ ;. •, OFF TO THE OTAGO SOUNDS.. His Excellency the Governor and Lady Plmikot havo- just completed an' interesting cruise on the Government-steamer Tutanekai. From .Oitcbunga they jront north to pxploro the scenic beauties of Hokianga.. Leaving that port they had a lively experience. Thcro was a pretty heavy sea running on tho bar, but as the steamer approached there seemed to bo a lull, and Captaiiv Post took prompt advantage of it to getliis'vessclacross. A steamer that followed in the Tutanekai's wake was signalled riot'to attempt to cross, and was moored up for twenty-four hours afterwards by a mountainous sea. It was intended to look into Kawhia harbour, but owing to tho smoke from tho bush firos it was deemed inadvisable to do so, and. the Tutanekai steamed ,on ;td . New Plymouth. From ■ thero the steamer convoycd the ViceB.egal party to the Marlborough- Sounds. Picton was visited, and there was fishingindifferent fishing—for a day or two.' His Excellency and Lady Plunket will visit the Mastorton Agricultural Show to-day, returning to Wellington cither this evening or to-morrow. , On Friday afternoon Lord Plunket will preside at 'a meeting of , the Rhodes. Scholarship Executive, leaving , tho same ovening for Lyttclton by the Maori. Oil Saturday next- he is to presido at the opening of a new master's houso at' Christ's College (which lias' been ercctcd almost' entirely with funds subscribed by old boys). On Sunday tho Governor will leiivo for Akaroa in-tho Tntanekai, .proceeding tlicnco to Stewart Island and tho Otago Sounds. They are expected to arrive back at tho Bluff about March 10; as His Excellency is due in Wellington on the 14th to_preside at tho ro-opening of the Home of Compassion at Island Bay.
