WELLINGTON CITY COUNCIL.
Tho City Council met last night. Present: The Mayor (Hon. T. W. Hislop), and Councillors Godber, Smith, Cohen, Ballinger, ShirtclifFe, Luke, M'Laren, Morrah, Fletcher, Biss, Hales, and Hindmarst. Leave of absence was granted to Councillors Murdoch, Carmichael, and Fisher, M.P.
The Abbatoirs, Milk Supply, "awl Public Health Committee reported that a meeting was called for Monday morning. • Owing to thoro being no quorum, , the Committee could not transact any business. A meeting would be called before next Council meeting in order to bring down a report on the milk supply question.
Councillor Smith. said he believed the Committco would liavo something satisfactory to submit at next meeting. ' Councillors Godber and ShirtGliffe explained that tho mooting ,of tho Committee was called at a most inconvenient timo for business men.

The Com- j mitteo reported • that they had considered ' tho application of Messrs. Fcrkins and Company for permission to erect soven dwellings , off Woolcombo Street, and have to recom- . mend that permission be'.granted for tho , erection of five houses only.-as recommended by and on conditions imposed by _ the"'City : Engineor. That they had f been waited upon by Messrs. Izard and Tripe with referenco to Selwyn Terrace, and tho Committeo had to recommend that the conditions of the resolution passed at a previous meeting of tho Council'with-'respect'"to 'the authorisation of Selwyn Terrace as a right-of-way be altered, and that tho right-of-way be taken over by tho Council on the condition that tho way be put in a thorough state of repair by tho owners of. tho property abutting thereon, to the satisfaction of the City En--gineer. \ J . Referring to Selwyn Terrace, Councillor Godber, who moved the adoption ; of the report,' stated that the Terrace had been a roadway for the ■ last 35 years, and that it was only just that upon certain conditions it should be taken over ,by tho Council. Councillor M'Laren moved, as an amendment, that the clause relating to tho right-of-way be referred back '• for further consideration. He thought - a list of similar right-of-ways should be prepared. Councillor Hindi)iarsli, who favoured tho amendment, stated that 'the Committee should be asked to recommend a principle on which tlie Council should act on future occasions. The amendment was rejected, and the report, as a whole, .was then adopted. The Finance and Property Committee recommended:—That in the lease .to - Messrs. Rowley and Gill there, should be included a similar covenant /in respect to a strip of land 4ft. wide adjoining their leasehold in Feathorston Street for .tlio. purpose of providing a light area as is in Messrs. Gualtor and Dykes's lease. The Committee reported that they had been 'unable- to come to any • agreement in respcct to, tho claim of the Jacob Joseph Trustees for compensation for the land taken at Karori 'for waterworks purposes. Tho report was adopted. . ; The Power Stations and: Tramways Committee recommended: —That an additional wrought-iron tank be installed at the Power Station, and that tlio present condenser discharge from the Power Station through Victoria Street be duplicated, as recommended by tho Electrical Engineer; and that ono week's pay be granted to Motorman J. Spence in consideration of a suggestion that has been adopted by tho Council. ' The report was adopted. •
