Letters received by Mrs.-David, wife of Professor David, of Sydney, who at the invitation of Commander Shackleton accompanied the Antarctic ; ship Nimrod on her southward • trip, state that Commander Shackleton has asked Professor David to remain with him in winter quarters this year, and to take solo charge of tho scientific work, except tho biological; also to take charge of the publication of tho scientific results so far as they relate to geology and meteorology. , | . > Profossor David is accepting the invitation on condition that, when ho reaches the great ico barrier, he can stand tho climate. Commander Sliacltlctoii thinks the J'rotcssor can stand tho cold better than some of the younger members of the expedition.
