THE STATE'S PEDIGREE STOCK.
TO BE SHOWN AT LEVIN. Our Levin correspondent states that all the fine pedigree stock at present on the State farm at Weraroa will bo on exhibition at the Horowhenua A. and P. show 011 r'ebruary 12. The stock will not be entered for competition, but for exhibition only. The exhibition by the Government of the pedigreo stock will be a welcome move. Tho Government in tho past has exhibited agricultural specimens of great educational value at tho principal shows; and if the cost be not too great a wide extension of the system could well bo undertaken. Many of the animals now in the Government's possession have been solectod with the greatest care with an eye to milk-yield qualities, and the farmer in all parts will be sure to gather in interested crowds around "the St ato cows." There wore signs thrown out recently that tho Minister had begun to feel that tho great cost involved by extending tho State exhibits over a wide series of shows was more than the Departmental purse could reasonably entertain. Whilo fully realising that money spoilt in tho exhibition work cannot be spent also in other.work, we think tho farmers attach considorable value to tho exhibits. Presumably State stock and other State exhibits travel freo of chargo on the State railways. Tho honey-pots which Mr. Hopkins is collecting for the Franco-British exhibition are being collected in duplicate, so that one set of six dozen will be available for tho various shows.
