MISSIONS TO SEAMEN.

A Bhort service was held in the Seamen's Church on Tuesday evening, when Mr. Jas. Moore (Missioner) preached on the words, "Costly Things." Afterwards a.large crowd of sailors assembled in the Institute, and a dcr ligKtful entertainment was held. The following contributed. items :-nMrs. i Hunter, Misses Cable (2), M'Farland, and Cunningham, and. Messrs. E, L. Burgess, Teedale, and Gardiner. An official concert was given last nigh't in the Institute by his Worship the M?yor (the Hon. T. W. llislop) and Mrs. llislo]>. The Missioner presided, and the' Mayor briefly addressed the audience, which crowded the largo hall in every part. During the evening, a competition, based upon temperance matters, was held, and was won by sailors in port. Miss M'lntyro provided a musical' programme. Vocal nnd. elocutionary items wore rendered by the following :—Mrs. Mitchell, Misses M'lntyre, Ranwell, Johnson, Easson, Messrs. Jacobs," J. Carr, Smith, Goudie, Hammertou (ILM.S. Powerful), Parrett (Ii.M.S. Powerful), Johnson, and Rev. C. JI. : Robinson Mr. Hollow acted as accompanist. Before the sailors dispersed they were each handed a plug of tobacco from Mrs. llislop. A hearty vote of thanks to the ; Mayor and Mayoress and to the performers concluded a very enjoyable function.
