THE FRUIT HAWKERS.
THEIR NEW STANDS.
I "No doubt," said Municipal Inspector Doyle yesterday, "somo of the fruit hawkers who havo failed to obtain licensed standing, places will bo discontented, and they will probably be able to find people who will advocate their cause, put I am sure of this, that, neither ill Wellington nor in any other city where traffic is congested, can fruit hawkers be allowed in the busy streets, for tho obvious reason that; they would cause obstruction of the traffic. A man must .sell his wares, and as long as the people come to him to buy, he. must, stand where he is and sell to them, and so obstructions are bound to occur if the street is at all a busy one. in other cities these hawkers are restricted to streets where there is comparatively little traffic. Wo are putting them at the corners whore side streets abut on the main business thoroughfares. People will soon get to know just where to find them, then trade will not suffer." Tho following places have been assigned as stands for fruit hawkersVeitch and Allan's corner, Garrett Street, Chuznec Street on both sides of Cuba Street, Dixon Street on both sides of Cuba Street, intersection of Maimers Street with Dixon Street and Courtonay Place, corner of Taranaki Street Extension and Courtonay Place, Plantation Reserve at tho eastern end of Courtenay Place, Martin's Fountain, corner nt' Tara'naki and lngestre Streets, six places on I.ambton Quay fnnmclv, at the corners of Grey, Patinma, .Brandon, Johnston. \Va ring-Taylor, ami Rnwen Street*), corner of Sydney and Mulgrove Streets, corner of FipUea and Molesworth Streets.
