NOTES ON THE RACING.

Mount Cook was nindo favourite for tho Mack Hurdles, and at oiio stage tho rnco looked to bo in his keeping, but lio tired in tho straight. l'apahwa (lid not adopt her usual tactics of going to tho front, but raced behind Royal Blue, for tho first six: furlongs, and consequently she was able to finish much better. Royal liluo led for six furlongs, but then dropped back, and eventually finished Just. Mussen finished well under punishment, and got'within a length of the winner.
, Aboriginal 'arid Golden EaglA were withdrawn from the Railway Handicap. . Splendid Idea got a had position at the start,: but sho was ri'.cely handled by Young, and gradually made uji the lost ground. She caught 1 latypus half way up the. straight, arid .won by half, a length..-Silver Shell .was hard ridden at the finish, hut she had no chahco with Splendid Idea arid Platypus. The latter took the lead from the start, and rah a.solid race; Uawaih was done; with at fivo .furlongs. Scotch Reel was in the rear throughout the journey. ■' '
I'ivo horsc-s went to the post: for tho, Flying Hack. Miss Vera was the public's selection, but she rievdr appeared to hold, a winning haiid. Nitchevo'.'bc-gan well,- arid ran with Orccnlcaf for tho first three furlongs, when Grwinleaf took i,ho- lead. Nitchevo .lea the romainder of tli'o horses- until .well inside tho last furlong, where / Wails liraka passed her. Tho letter had a , rear position' till well 'into' the straight, but ho galloped resolutely. over the last c-ouple of hundred yards, arid'ivas just too late to heat Grbenleaf. Tho Sou'-Wester maro had a gqo'd lead at ono ntage, but she stopped to nothing' in the last furlong, and appeared to be lucky to win.
-Belario, Monsieur Beaucaire, arid Prince Hassan were withdrawn from tho Welter Hack. Mikotahi took the lead early, and maintained itj. fill- tho finish, .winning by 'a couple of lengths from 'Anemone.' TrUganirii was slow to .coiriinenoe, and for'tho greater part of the journey was several lengths ,in the rear of tho field. Over the latter part of,tho journey she mustered, a lot of pace,, and was just beaten out of a place. St. Ludlam ran a fair race, arid pressed Anemorie hard for second position. To Kuiti was prominent at the homo turn, but- Robin Link arid Rofino wero. riever in tho hunt.

Axito tried to win .the..Telegraph Hack from beginning to-end, but was decisively boatqn by Bonnie Doon. • Seatdn Dale did ■ r ] ' lll "P to form.
