Commenting on tho Labour Conference at Hull, and Mr. Stephenson's Socialism resolution, tho' "Daily Chronicle" (Liberal, newspaper) says-that organised labour will possibly weaken and wreck tile Liberal party, the only practical result being to icavo the Tories in\possession of tho field: -' Tho Labour men (adds the "Chronicle") probably do not realise what the proceedings at Hull mean, but; the danger is real, and t.lio Labour and the Liberal parties should- tako their bearings.'-.lf tho Labour party and the 'Trado Unionists ally themselves to a party of Marxian Revolutionary Socialism, • theyiwill alienate-sympathy. ' . ~ , : Mr. Jas. - Haslam, ' member for Chesterfield division of- Derbyshire, announces that the Officials of the Derbyshire Miners' Association have decided - that the [Association would not take a ballot of members concerning tho proposal• to join v the Labour Representation Committee "unless the now departure adopted at the Hull Conference is fully .explained. Mr. Stephenson's resolution, said Mr: Haslam, scorned simply that those joining the, Committee would be committed to. unadulterated Socialism. , Mr..';:W:''E. Harvey, .Labour :member for Derbyshire, and joint secretary ofithe Miners' ]Association,'stated in ;nn interview that lie', found it impossible to associate himself with a' man like Mr.'H. Quelch (the Socialist,) and 'with the vast majority of social reformers.
