FEILDING NEWS.
[FROM OCT OWX CORRESPONDENT.] January 23. A meeting-of tho Fcilding Swimming Club committeo was held last night. Mr. Had(ield, secretary of the-newly-formed club, reported that ho had seen Air. Campbell, secretary of tho North Island Swimming Association, at Wanganui on Wednesday, and'had made arrangements for tbo registration of the new Foilding Club, and scoured approval of tho proposed programme. A meeting of ladies iu tlio afternoon agreed to undertake to organise the refreshment department for the coming swimming carnival in aid of tho'cricket ground.
Miss Eleanor Pusseil, of Cunningham's, was married in the Grey Street Presbyterian Church, Foilding, on AVcdnesday, by tho ltev. Georgo Build, to Mr. Ernest Duncan, of Kiwitea.
0»o or two Feikling pedestrians went to Maugawoka on AVedncsday for tho big sports meeting there, but wero unsuccessful, tho prize money being divided amongst local competitors. At tho Nikau sports meeting Louis Pirmii won tho points' prize for the four sprint events. His father (Mr. Fred l'irani) won the men's race at tho AVuituna Farmers' Union picnic on tho same day. The Kiwitea Rifle Club's ninth annual shoot at Cheltenham was a success. The championship was won by llilleni.an Penny, of Sandon, the following being the. scores: — Rifleman Penny, 120; Lieut. Sandilands, 117; Captain Barltrop, ll(j; Rifleman Banks, 11G; Rifleman Stackhouse, 115; Lieut. Domigan, 11*1. Aggregate (handicap)— Rifleman Stackhouse (Mr. Bruco's trophy), 122; A r oiunteer Lucas (£!), 122; Lieut. Sandilanils (10s.), lIS. The teams' match provided a remarkably finish, the Manchester Rifles and the Kimbolton Rifle. Club finishing equal. The tio was decided-hv each team filing one shot per man at 700 yards, with tho result that the Volunteers scored I<l points and the Rifle Club 9. The AVaituna Farmers' Union Picnic was a great success on AVedncsday. The eommitteo had arranged for three outside speakers, and their choice proved a happy one. The Chairman of the committee (Mr. Hare) extended a hearty welcome to thoso present, and pointed out that gatherings of tho sort were a great benefit to the district. Speak-i ing of the Union, he said the. farmers only wanted fair play; they desired no privileges which would. give them advantages above what any others received. Mr. F. V. Lellibridge, M.l'., also spoke. i)lr. E. 11. Cihlil), chairman of the .Kiuibolton branch of tho Farmers' Union, said that thero seemed to be a misapprehension abroad as to the constitution of the Fanners' Union, lie claimed tliat there was no more democratic constitution in existence.
