AUSTRALIAN GRAPES
MAY NOAV BK IMPORTKD. Tho prohibition of tho importation of Australian grapes was removed yesterday by tho publication in the " Gazette" of a sot of regulations under which grapes from tho Commonwealth may now be imported. The prohibition remains in force against all other countries. Every shipment of grapes from the Australian Commonwealth must be accompanied by a certificate, signed by the shipper, and countersigned by an officer of the Department of Agriculture in the Stale from which the grapes were, shipped, certifying that such grapes wero grown in f hat State", that no phylloxera is known to exist in or within one mile of tho vineyard where such grapes were grown, and that no grape-vino foliage or wood is attached to such grapes. On the production of such a certificate at the office of an inspector under tho Orchard and Garden Pests Act, 1903, such Inspector limy, if satisfied that the certificate applies to the grapes proposed to be introduced, and that the law has been otherwise complied with, allow such grapes to lie landed ami disposed of without further restriction. .Any grapes contrary to tho regulations are to he reshipped at'once to a place beyond New Zealand.
